Recent Updates (January, 2024): * Hoarfrost Serragon: What's causing those ice patches in the desert? Fight off the enormous serragon before it freezes your crops and swallows you whole! * Ability engine: Over 300 of our abilities now run through the game's new ability engine, which makes adding new abilities in OLC a snap. * The Tower Skycleave: Ashes of History: A major new adventure zone with a deep story whose details are hidden in conversations, descriptions, quests, and hidden areas. At over 146000 words, Skycleave is practically its own novel. * Adventure updates: Burrow Canyons, The Cursed Chalice of Mill Manor, and Hamlet of the Dead have all received updates to improve the player experience. An update for the Molten Fiend is coming soon, too. * Game performance: A major backend overhaul to mobs and items reduces the tiny (but perceptible) lag caused during hourly updates.

EmpireMUD has been around since 2000, with version 2.0 in development since 2013 by the original EmpireMUD creator, Paul Clarke. Check our website to see the world map, and for a link to the GitHub project where you can get your own copy of EmpireMUD's codebase.

EmpireMUD's emphasis is on politics, trade, building, crafting, and resource management, in addition to an adventure system where players can quest for glory. Players join existing empires or found their own to forge powerful alliances.

EmpireMUD is always looking for builders who want to design and create content using our contextual in-game editors. EmpireMUD lets you edit crops, buildings, mobs, factions, and 20 other data types. It also includes a port of the DG Scripts scripting system. We'll teach you to use the whole thing.
