Other MUD clients
MUD clients for Windows, Mac, Linux and mobile
A MUD client connects you to a text game and keeps the screen readable while you play: colors, triggers, a map, scripts. Each of them connects to a world listed with an address and port. Facts come from each client's own site or repository, checked in October 2026.

Playing with a screen reader
Text games suit screen readers well, and many MUD players are blind or have low vision. What works best depends on how much the client itself should speak.
- VIP Mud and genericMud are made for it: they speak through JAWS, NVDA or VoiceOver, play soundpacks, and have keys for reviewing what the game said.
- TinTin++ runs in a terminal, which its authors say works with most screen readers. Blightmud has a screen reader mode with its own text-to-speech.
- Mudlet lists support for visually impaired players among its features. Axmud has a separate launcher for visually impaired players that works with eSpeak, Festival and other speech engines.
- MUSHclient speaks through plugins, such as the text-to-speech plugin it ships with and screen reader plugins discussed on its forum.
- Fado on Android has a text-to-speech command for triggers, and BlowTorch2 can speak from triggers and timers through the phone's own voice.
- WMC has not been tested with a screen reader yet. If you try it, we would like to hear how it goes.
Playing in the browser
Many games run a web client of their own, linked from the game's website. Nothing to install, and it is usually set up for that one game, which makes it the quickest way to try a world. A desktop or terminal client becomes worth it once you want your own triggers, logs, a map or several games in one place. On Wandur, a world that plays only in the browser says so on its page.
Older clients
Players still mention these, but they are no longer developed or no longer easy to get.
- zMUD (another site): Windows. Replaced by CMUD; its maker says it does not support Windows Vista or later.
- Atlantis (another site): macOS. The last build was updated for macOS 10.15; its developer says scripting no longer works and a rewrite is under way.
- MUDRammer (another site): iPhone and iPad. Removed from the App Store in March 2025; the source is on GitHub under the MIT licence.
- Mukluk (another site): Android. Its author says it no longer works on recent versions of Android; the source is on GitHub.
- BlowTorch (another site): Android. Last changed in 2018; BlowTorch2 above carries it on.
- Proxiani (another site): A proxy that sat between VIP Mud and the game Miriani. Its repository was archived in 2021.
